About Us
“I believe that every individual has the right and need to communicate.
We strive to ensure that each child’s speech, language and communication potential is maximised across the curriculum.”
Katie Khan, Practice Principal of The Speech Bubble
My Background
I worked in the NHS for several years after qualifying as a Speech & Language Therapist, and thoroughly enjoyed the challenges and variety it gave me in my work. Yet I noticed that as my caseload grew larger and larger, my time was being spread more and more thinly. In particular, I was frustrated that I was unable to offer children and schools more opportunities for the therapy they required.
I decided that there was a better way to reach more children, and formed The Speech Bubble in 2003 to do just that. My aim was simple – to provide parents and schools with the opportunity for immediate therapy at a time and place convenient for all; no more large caseloads, no waiting lists, no problems with accessibility or reliability, and enough time for every child.
I aim to make every learning opportunity fun, meaningful and positive for all children. Having operated in schools for over 7 years, I’m confident in our ability to make a difference.

Company Background
Katie founded The Speech Bubble in 2003 after becoming frustrated that the provision of therapy to children in schools was frequently inconsistent, and that some children were not receiving the regular speech therapy they needed. Large NHS caseloads meant that not enough time could be allocated to schools, and there was often a lack of flexibility for parents and schools as to how and when their children received therapy.
Katie thought it should be possible to offer a more reliable and timely service, and The Speech Bubble was her solution. The company ethos was simple: quality, reliable therapy delivered directly within the school environment. Enough time for every child, and no more missed appointments because of the need for parents and children to visit a clinic during working hours.
Seven years on and we’re lucky enough to work with a rich variety of people from all kinds of schools – maintained and independent, mainstream and special schools alike. We’re still engaged by every school we’ve worked with, so we must be doing something right!
Our Approach
We work exclusively in schools, which means we have the experience, expertise and structure to give your school the best result possible. It also means that our focus is on your school, not divided amongst other private clients and individuals. We’re not trying to replicate the NHS model of therapy; we specialise in an area that we feel is vitally important, but often overlooked.
Each school has its own unique mix of children and personalities – we don’t believe in the same approach working for everyone. All of our solutions are tailored to each school’s needs, ensuring you receive the optimal therapy services for your particular requirements.
We believe that everyone can reach their full communication potential given the right opportunities and support. So if you feel that some of your pupils are ‘slipping through the cracks’, then get in touch with us now and find out how we can help you.

Our Therapists
We engage only the very best therapists with proven experience in working with the specialised needs of our clients. Passion, dedication and shared values are a must.
All our therapists are fully qualified, have undergone an Enhanced CRB check, and are members of the Health Professions Council (HPC), The Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (RCSLT) and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP).
We are always looking for quality people – if you are a therapist with experience, passion and enthusiasm then please contact Katie to find out more about working with The Speech Bubble. Our people are our business, so if you think that you can make a difference then we’d love to hear from you!
